ABOUT THE PROJECT

EAGA is the short form of BIMP-EAGA which stand for the Brunei Darussalam - Indonesia - Malaysia - the Philippines - East ASEAN Growth Area. It is Asia’s largest regional grouping, spanning territories of four ASEAN countries. BIMP-EAGA was formally launched in 1994 to develop the sub-region by re-establishing and strengthening trade links between the member countries.

EU-EAGA BizTech Partnership is a Business Match-Making event, co- funded by the Asia Invest Programme of the European Commission (EC) and is jointly promoted by the State Government of Sarawak, ConnectAsiaEurope e.V., Germany; Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX), Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines Foundation, Inc. (CCPFI), The French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam (CCIFV), BIMP-EAGA Business Council (BEBC) and BIMP-EAGA Facilitation Centre (BIMP-FC).

The project aims to improve the competitiveness of SMEs in both the EU and EAGA regions via trade and investment linkages, technology transfer and cooperation, capacity building within the four (4) key priority sectors of Environment and Energy, Natural Resources (Forestry), Agriculture/ Aquaculture and Ecotourism.

Objectives
(i) To create bi-directional cross-border trade and investment linkages between the EU and EAGA SMEs and Business Intermediary Organisations (BIOs) in the priority area in order to foster partnership and co-operation in trade, investment, technology and technical know-how as well as to prepare the SMEs for business internationalisation.

(ii) To strengthen commercial and technical capabilities of participating SMEs and Business Intermediary Organisations (BIOs) by improving their knowledge related to trade and investment regimes between the EU and EAGA for the purpose of economic co-operation.

(iii) To develop partner-search oriented business web portal for facilitating economic cooperation between the EU and EAGA SMEs.
